Post Prompt: Write a letter to your favorite author.

Answer:

Dear Suzanne Collins,

Thank you for ruining my life with your exquisite trilogy. I simply cannot live my life the same as I did before I read your books. I just want to know - where was your mind when you wrote them? What were you thinking? Never in my years have I seen or read anything like this. Your books were filled with love, sadness, adventure, death, and everything in between. I felt so many emotions balled into one.

Yours truly,
Morgan

P.S. Why did Rue have to die?
P.P.S. Team Peeta or Team Gale?

Feature & Follow Friday is a fun event hosted by Alison Can Read & Parajunkee. The purpose is to gain more followers and make new friends throughout the book blogging community. Keep in mind, though, the point is to follow other blogs also. I follow you, you follow me. :)

Post Prompt: Ten Reasons You Read Your Favorite Genre

Answer: My favorite genre is definitely YA. Why do I like it so much? In no particular order:
  1. It makes me feel less crappy about my life. Let's face it, times are tough for teenagers in the book world. The struggle is real.
  2. I have friends who like the same genre, so it's nice to be able to share books with one another, get suggestions, and chat about them.
  3. YA books deal with so many different issues like sexuality, gender issues, etc. so it's nice to be able to read something that encompasses real-world, practical issues.
  4. I was a teenager once, so I can totally relate. The ability for a book to evoke some sort of nostalgia is an amazing thing. I miss my childhood.
  5. They're easy reads. Of course I like challenging books, too, but it's nice to just breeze through a book and be able to move on to one of the other 500 books in my TBR pile.
  6. My son and I can suggest books to one another. He reads mostly YA fantasy or mystery which isn't a huge fave of mine, but I like that we can both read a book and reach a common ground. It's something we can share together.
  7. It's thought-provoking. I love a book where I'm left dumbfounded and spinning and wondering what the heck just happened. It's an amazing feeling!
  8. It's a huge genre, so if I feel like reading Fantasy with a YA twist, or Dystopian but with characters who are close to my age, I can do that. It encompasses so many types of genres within a genre.
  9. It makes me feel like I can overcome anything. For the most part, there's a happy ending that comes from a long struggle. Life is very much like that.
  10. I genuinely enjoy reading them. They're fun and exciting and most of the time I can't put the book down to the point where my husband is yelling at me wondering if I'm ever coming to bed.

So tell me - what's your favorite genre, and why do you read it?

This week's question: Why did you start blogging?

The main reason I started blogging was to network with other people and to make new friends. I've always loved reading, so what could be better than merging my love of books with my love for writing? I love that it takes up my time but in a way that's enjoyable. I'm never like, "Ugh, I have to do a blog post today." (Okay, not yet at least.)

So tell me...why did you start blogging?!

This week's question: Is there a book that you were required to read in school that you actually loved?

I don't remember a lot of books I read in school because at the time I was probably pissed that I was required to read something. A lot of the books we read seemed so ridiculous to me and I never really understood the need to read them until I got older. Many of them actually had some pretty good underlying messages to them. I do, however, remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird and absolutely adoring it. It was a tough read but has such a great message that it is trying to portray. Reading that book helped me to develop the mindset that everyone should be treated equal no matter their race, ethnicity, or cultural background. Honestly this book really changed my outlook on life, which is definitely something I needed at that time in my life.

This week's question: How do you decide what books to read?

As I've said before, I'm totally guilty of judging a book by its cover. Blasphemy, I know. If a book has a super sweet cover, without a doubt I'm going to pick it up and check out the synopsis, maybe read a little of the first chapter even. I love books that are a little out there, with topics that some people might shy away from. I mostly stick to the YA books unless I've been referred to check out a book, or if a book is similar to one I just read. A lot of the books I've found were suggested based on those I've already read. If the synopsis can make me go, "For real? You wrote a book about this?", then obviously I'm going to buy it.

This week's question: How do you cure a book hangover/blogging slump/reading slump?

I try to get myself excited again by taking a much needed trip to B&N. This ALWAYS gets me excited. I love discovering new books, and I could literally be in that store for hours just finding new ones to read. They say not to judge a book by it's cover but...guilty as charged. If your books has a great-looking cover, you can betchur butt I'm gonna read the back and see if it sounds interesting. If your book is kind of lacking in the awesome cover department, I might not even pick it up (sue me). The point is, a B&N adventure can really boost my mood and get me pumped for reading again.

This week's question: What is your guilty pleasure as far as reading? Is it a genre, or is it a certain type of book?

I have a serious obsession with book collecting. I use Paperback Swap a lot, and love Netgalley, so recently I've been requesting books and downloading ebooks out the ying yang recently. I bet you I have 30 books sitting right now, and it'll probably take me a while before I get to read all of them. I'm pretty much set with reading for the next 6 months, haha. :)

This week's question: Happy Mardi Gras! If they were throwing the HOTTEST books off of a Mardi Gras float — what would you do to have them throw to you...?

Due to my ridiculous personality, I would probably jump up and down and scream at the top of my lungs. Hopefully if I could draw enough attention to myself, maybe they would throw more books at me!
