Here are some fabulous excerpts from her new book:

Excerpt 1:
As I walked back into my bedroom, I thought about Blake. Was he sleeping on the other side of my wall? Could he hear me in here?
I shook away my thoughts. I didn’t need to worry about what he was doing because he didn’t matter.
That’s when I heard the music.
“No way” I whispered.
The Lumineers “Stubborn Love” was playing softly through the wall.
It was one of my favorite songs, and obviously Blake had no idea why I loved the lyrics so much.
Talk about a crazy coincidence. I decided to tweet my favorite line.
AshaGirlRVA: It’s better to feel pain than nothing at all. #Lumineers #GoodnightMrGreenEyes
I plugged my phone into the spare charger on my nightstand and climbed into bed. I heard my phone ding a notification, which was nothing new, but decided to turn them off for the night.
I swiped my phone on, and then saw the comment left on twitter. I gasped.
Blake_RVA: @AshaGirlRVA Glad you like it. #GoodnightMsBlueEyes
“Well shit.” I said before turning my phone off and throwing my arm over my eyes.

Excerpt 2:
“So are you upset because he follows your tweets or because you tweeted about him to begin with?” Katherine asked me from across the table, sticking a piece of pastry in her mouth.
She was pretty nontraditional as far as therapists go. Sometimes we met in her office, but many times- like today, we met at a restaurant in the city and just chatted like friends. She was my fifth therapist and her model of talking to me like a person and a friend instead of like a client is the only reason she was able to get through to me.
Despite my disagreements with her, I valued her input on things in my life. She knew the whole story, the things that Lily, Tom, my dad, and Marcy would never hear about. She knew it all.
I breathed out in frustration. “I don’t know. I don’t want to censor what I write about. But I also don’t check every follower. I get new followers every day. I’m annoyed that he knows he got to me. That’s what I’m annoyed about. What if he reads my blog?”
She shrugged. “Why not? If you really never have any intention of talking to this guy romantically, then he’s just another reader. If you were thinking you may like to get to know him, your blog is a great way for him to learn about you and your story.”
I pursed my lips. “Well, I am not interested in ANYTHING with him. Nothing. I just don’t like it.”
She laughed. “Asha, you’ve been seeing me for almost 9 years. You’ve had a lot of guys show interest in you. You have never once been flustered at conversation with them, nor have you spent any length of time talking about them with me. So, obviously, you have some interest there.”
I nodded. “Right, but how can I un-interest myself?”
She chuckled again. “I don’t think it works that way, dear. It’s okay to be interested in a guy.”
I opened my mouth to protest but she continued.
“I get it. Your rules. But Asha, we’ve talked about your rules before. You cannot live your life in a bubble and refuse to let anyone in romantically.”
I nodded again. “Yes I can.”

Feature & Follow Friday #6

Feature & Follow Friday is a fun event hosted by Alison Can Read & Parajunkee. The purpose is to gain more followers and make new friends throughout the book blogging community. Keep in mind, though, the point is to follow other blogs also. I follow you, you follow me. :)

This week's question: Is there a book that you were required to read in school that you actually loved?

I don't remember a lot of books I read in school because at the time I was probably pissed that I was required to read something. A lot of the books we read seemed so ridiculous to me and I never really understood the need to read them until I got older. Many of them actually had some pretty good underlying messages to them. I do, however, remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird and absolutely adoring it. It was a tough read but has such a great message that it is trying to portray. Reading that book helped me to develop the mindset that everyone should be treated equal no matter their race, ethnicity, or cultural background. Honestly this book really changed my outlook on life, which is definitely something I needed at that time in my life.

Book Blitz: Not Every Girl by Jane McGarry

Hello friends and followers! To kick off the weekend I'd like to introduce you all to a new author I recently came into contact with. While perusing the world of Facebook I was lucky enough to find her and now I get to promote her new book (yay!). You can find her here on Goodreads and on her website here.

Taken from Goodreads:
Olivia Davenport’s plan is destined to fail.

She is going through with it anyway, of course. After all, it is the chance of a lifetime. The unreasonable rules of others should not stand in her way.

In her small kingdom of Stewartsland, Olivia trains with the squires and harbors a secret dream. She longs to become a knight under the command of the Master-of–Arms, who just happens to be her father. He has indulged her passion so far, but they both know a simple fact – girls may not attain knighthood. Dismayed by the constant discouragement of her ambitions, she makes an impetuous decision to disguise herself as a boy in order to sneak on a mission. The consequences are not at all what she anticipated.

When her deception is revealed, she is sent home in disgrace; however, an unexpected turn of events puts her at the center of a dangerous plot against the King. The ensuing adventure finds her grappling with mercenaries and outlaws, yet these pale in comparison to her newly awakened emotions. She finds not only her life at risk, but also her heart, when the aloof Prince Liam begins to affect her in ways she never thought possible. In the end, it is her courage and unique spirit which must guide her through the challenges she encounters both physical and emotional.

Can you say YES? Does Mulan ring a bell? This is like Disney's Mulan on a whole 'nother level, and I seriously cannot WAIT to review it! Review to come, folks, don't fret.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

"I came to offer the young lady one of my guards as an escort home."
What?
That is not part of my plan! And besides, my father could not seriously consider sending me off into the woods with a strange man, royal guard or not. It takes every ounce of my restraint to not jump up and protest.
"That is gracious of you, Your Majesty," my father answers. "However, I am concerned about the propriety of that arrangement. Not," he adds hastily, "that I would expect anything less than the highest scruples from one of your men."
Good. So Father has a grasp on the situation. Sending me back with any strange man and no female chaperone is entirely inappropriate. And there are no other women on the trip. Too bad Puck isn't here; my father would trust him with me. Now, they will all have to work out the only viable option—that I continue on the trip. I merely sit quietly and wait for them to come to this inevitable conclusion.
"Well, I certainly understand your feelings. Especially since the young lady in question is your daughter," King William agrees. "I am sure if I had a daughter of my own, I would feel much the same way."
They discuss me as if I am not sitting right here, as if I have no capacity for thought—or hearing. I am actually quite capable of taking care of myself and could get home without help from any man, thank you anyway. Not that I will suggest this as an option, of course.
Time drags into a prolonged silence. Birds chatter in the trees, the river bubbles happily by, the men are all packed and ready to go. They stand in a huddled mass waiting for instructions from their superiors. Come on guys, surely one of you can figure out the answer. My father must be aware of the only solution, so why isn't he saying anything? Perhaps he is waiting for the King to suggest it, so it appears he thought of the idea and can take credit for it.
"If I may make a suggestion, Sir Jack…" Prince Liam begins.
I am so happy someone is finally going to state the obvious, I don't even care that it is coming from his egotistical mouth. But then, he decides to become the next person to throw a wrench in my plans.
"Why don't I accompany the young lady home along with one of the guards. I give my word that everything will be handled with the utmost discretion."

Please, please, PLEASE check her out! You'll be glad you did!

EXCERPT
I sat up and pulled my knees in close to my
chest.  Electricity flared in the air as
Luke inhaled.
“You know, Logan, you’re not who I expected you to
be,” he said, taking a long thought-filled pause.  “I thought the next twelve months were going
to be hell living with a California socialite, but you’re pretty amazing.  I guess I owe you an apology.”
“So, it’s a good
thing that I’m nothing like you expected?” I asked.
“It’s a really, really good thing.”
As I started to smile back he craned his neck to
look away from me.  His eyes
focused.  Something black flashed across
the road but I was more scared by Luke’s reaction.  The warmth had vanished from Luke in a
heartbeat.  The object stopped moving
toward us when it got to an opening between the trees.  Even though I could feel Luke’s concern, I leaned
forward toward the window, curious.  It
was a wolf – a really big wolf, staring directly at us with bright green
eyes.  It was close enough I could see
quick breaths escape into the crisp rain-drenched air.  I was startled when the engine roared to
life.  Luke threw the car into reverse,
and I nearly slammed into the dash as the sound of gravel scattered everywhere.
He quickly jockeyed around and pulled
back onto the road heading home.  I kept
my eyes on the wolf until he was no longer in sight.
“Was that a wolf?” I asked.  Everything happened so quickly, I had to be
sure.
“Yes,” he spit.
“I’ve never seen a wolf before – that thing was huge.”
Luke immediately turned to look at me with an
expression that I couldn’t begin to read.
“What’s going on?” I pressed, puzzled.
When he looked toward the road and didn’t answer, I
knew my question needed to be more specific to get results.
“Why are you freaking out?  It was just a wolf.”  I was worried.  He had gone from warm and comforting to moody
and distant over such a small thing and I second-guessed how quickly I had
fallen for him.
“Because I need to get you home, it’s getting late,”
he muttered, failing to control his tone.
“That doesn’t make any sense, Luke.  I have no curfew and you flaked as soon as
you saw the wolf.”
“Wolves are dangerous.”
“We were in the car,” I countered.

“Doesn’t matter.”
